Christchurch Town Council is delighted to announce that it will host a grand celebration to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day on Thursday, 8th May 2025.
This significant event will take place on Christchurch Quay, from 6 pm to 10 pm, as part of the nationwide commemorations honouring the end of World War II in Europe.
VE Day holds a profound place in the history of the United Kingdom, marking the cessation of hostilities and the return of peace to a war-torn continent. As a town with strong historical ties to the war effort, Christchurch is proud to take a leading role in this important occasion, bringing the community together in remembrance, celebration, and reflection.
Christchurch Quay will transform into a vibrant post-war gathering place, evoking the joyful spirit of the street parties that marked the original VE Day in 1945.
The event will feature live music performances from vintage and military bands, war-time vehicles, family-friendly activities as well as historical displays and exhibitions, providing an opportunity to educate younger generations about the significance of this day.
